PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday expressed support to the construction of the country’s first-ever underground rail system, the Metro Manila Subway Project.

During the groundbreaking ceremony in Pasig City led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines Ambassador Kazuhiko Koshikawa, and other officials, Mayor Sotto said that the city government will do everything to support the project.

He expressed delight with two stations located in Pasig.

We are so happy. We are more than happy and excited na meron pong dakawang istasyon na nadito po sa Lungsod ng Pasig, Ortigas North and Ortigas South.

We look forward to the day we would be able to walk to the subway station and ride a subway going to the airport, going to Commonwealth, to BGC, at marami pa pong iba.”

Sotto also expressed his support for the administration.

We are confident that under this administration and under the leadership of Pres. Marcos that the construction of this subway will be very smooth.”

Asahan po ninyo na ang lokal na pamahalaan ng Pasig ay nandito para suportahan ang programa. And we will do everything that we can.

The local chief executive also called on Pasigueños and the public to support said project and understand the little inconvenience it will cause during its construction phase.

Kaunting sakripisyo po ngayon para sa kaginhawaan pagdating ng bukas,” said Mayor Sotto.

The Metro Manila Subway Project will be operational by 2028. (PIA-NCR)
