PBBM postpones Barangay, SK polls

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday, October 10, signed into law the Republic Act No. 11935. This amends Republic Act No. 9164 and postpones the originally set Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on December 5, 2022. This further move the elections on the last Monday of October 2023 and every three (3) years thereafter.

Meanwhile, all incumbent barangay and sangguniang kabataan officials shall remain in office until their successors shall have been duly elected and qualified, or unless sooner removed or suspended for a cause.

The amount necessary for the implementation of this act will be taken from the appropriations of the Commission on Elections under the General Appropriations Act and/or supplementary appropriations.

This is the fourth time since 2016 that the barangay elections were postponed. (KAA- PIA CPSD)
