MANILA, (PIA) -- President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos will grace on Wednesday the 121st anniversary of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the agency primarily tasked with safeguarding life and property at sea, protecting marine resources and the environment, and assisting in the enforcement of maritime laws within the Philippines.
The President will keynote the event at the PCG National Headquarters, Port Area in Manila, and will be joined by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in leading the recognition of commendable Coast Guard personnel and units, as well as partner agencies and organizations, that helped the service in accomplishing its mandates in the past year.
One of the highlights of the said event is the conferment of awards to deserving Coast Guard officers and personnel, as well as civilian entities that have rendered commendable and brilliant services in the conduct of various PCG-related activities and missions. At least 13 awards and recognition will be conferred and witnessed by the Chief Executive.
While plaques of recognition will also be given for upholding PCG’s mandates amid the COVID-19 public health emergency and other new challenges.
Moreover, the event will be presenting the agency’s acquired assets, including the BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV–8301), an 84-meter offshore patrol vessel (OPV) and a vital part of the Philippine Ports and Coast Guard capability.
This year’s anniversary carries the theme, “PCG@121: Committed to Go Beyond Towards Nation Building.” (PIA-NCR)
