COTABATO CITY (PIA) -- The 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division of the Philippine Army is strengthening the implementation of its major programs or activities to heighten security measures in its area of responsibility.
During his interview over the program PIA Talakayang Dose, Lt. Col. Dennis Almorato, commanding officer of the 6th Civil Military Operations Battalion of the 6ID, said the military is now focusing on three major programs or activities.
“Our main programs are on the neutralization of lawless armed groups and communist terrorist groups, rido settlement, and strengthened partnership with peace-inclined armed groups,” Almorato said.
This, according to him is to ensure the sustainability of peace and order in communities, particularly in some parts of Maguindanao province.
The official disclosed that their efforts in the neutralization of lawless armed groups resulted in the surrender of 208 members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and Dawlah Islamiya, and 122 members of the communist terrorist groups since January this year. On rido settlement, the 6ID continues with the facilitation of peace pacts, particularly in Pikit, Cotabato province.
Almorato also said that the 6ID is in close coordination with peace-inclined groups in the Bangsamoro region in support of Bangsamoro leaders’ implementation of development projects. He emphasized the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Moro National Liberation Front are active counterparts in the promotion of peace and development in the Bangsamoro region.
“We have to preserve the gains. Naka-take off na tayo kaya tuloy-tuloy na natin itong gagawin,” Almorato added.
The official said the army is always open for those who need their help. Meanwhile, he encouraged members of lawless elements who want to return to the folds of the law to coordinate with the officials of the local government units or they may seek assistance from the army’s detachments.
