QUEZON CITY (PIA) -- As Tropical Storm 'Paeng' exits the Luzon landmass, government response agencies and local disaster risk reduction and management councils (LDRRMCs) proceed to conduct Search and Rescue, and Relief operations to the victims of the weather disturbance.
The Philippine Coast Guard worked hand in hand with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and LDRRMCs in delivering relief goods. In Capiz, PCG personnel hauled 500 sacks of rice intended for affected families. Six Coast Guard vessels are ready for use by the DSWD.
In Negros Occidental, the PCG rescued and evacuated some 120 families in Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan City affected by heavy floods.
Other PCG districts have also been directed to provide augmentation in relief operations in different areas.
The Philippine Air Force extended S&R and humanitarian efforts in Capiz. The Joint Task Force Spear sent a disaster response team to Sigma, Capiz to provide augmentation to the LGU in its rescue efforts. Troops from the 12IB, with the CAFGU Active Auxiliary, assisted the local DSWD in humanitarian and relief efforts in Panit-an town. The troops likewise delivered FFPs and drinking water to affected barangays in Dumarao.
Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWO) likewise continue to work with government agencies in S&R operations. Teams from different battalions and reservists carried out separate S&R missions in flooded barangays in Parang and Datu Sinsuat in Maguindanao, and Zamboanga City.
Together with partner stakeholders, the NFWO is consolidating relief packs.
The Philippine Army conducts humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations in typhoon-affected communities.
Reservists from the 905th Community Defense Center of the 9th Regional Community Defense promptly rescued and evacuated 9 children, 1 PWD, 1 pregnant woman and 2 Senior Citizens in Barangay Tugbungan, Zamboanga City. They also assisted in distributing relief goods. Likewise, the 14th IB under the 802nd Brigade helped communities in the towns of Bato and Hilongos in Leyte and Southern Leyte.
The Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade beefed up its S&R and relief operations in the Panay islands. They deployed troops, vehicles and equipment to flooded areas and, with LGUs, conducted relief operations to families affected by TS Paeng.
In Cagayan, troops from the 77IB of the 5th Infantry Division, with the local Philippine National Police, swiftly evacuated the residents of San Miguel, Baggao, Cagayan. (CPC/PMD)
