Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Project uses microtunneling technolgy

QUEZON CITY, (PIA)--Manila Water piloted the first microtunneling technology in Mandaluyong City for the construction of the Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Package 1.

The project is part of the Php785M Mandaluyong West, San Juan South and Quezon City South Sewerage System that includes the Aglipay Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) complemented by a combined sewer network, which will cater to households in Mandaluyong, San Juan Cities, and a segment of Quezon City.

The 60-million liters per day (MLD) capacity (expandable to 120 MLD) Aglipay STP is expected to be physically completed by January 2024.

Representatives from the Mandaluyong LGU, Manila Water’s project team, and the Contractor, EI Construction Development Corporation witnessed the arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) which will lay the 1500-millimeters glass reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe for the Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Package 1.

This will serve as the influent line that will collect the wastewater from Mandaluyong City households going to the Aglipay STP.

Manila Water Wastewater Headline Project Manager Joyce General said that Package 1 is targeted to be completed by December 2023.

“This will benefit nine (9) barangays in Mandaluyong City, namely, Brgy. Ibaba, Brgy. Drive, Brgy. Hulo, Brgy. Plainview, Brgy. San Jose, Brgy. Old Zaniga, Brgy. New Zaniga, Brgy. Vergara, Brgy. Namayan,” General added.

The Mandaluyong West Sewer Network Package 1 aims to collect wastewater from the city’s drainage system through a combined sewer interceptor system to the Aglipay STP to ensure standard treatment before discharging to Pasig River.

Currently, it has ongoing works on cutting and breaking of concrete along F. Blumentritt for water relocation and tunneling works. (manila water pr/pia-ncr)
