LAOAG CITY (PIA) – To strengthen their family planning campaign, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) in Laoag City will be conducting the Philippine Population Program (PPMP) Orientation here on December 6.
To join this forum are the Barangay Service Point Officer (BSPO), who will be trained as volunteers who help in the implementation of different population programs, like seminars, forums, and conduct lectures to different High Schools in the city.
The main topics of these forums will center on Responsible Parenthood, Healthy Lifestyles, Sexually Healthy and Personal Empowered (SHAPE) Adolescents, the Health Caravan for Women of Reproductive Age, and other generational activities for couples and individuals to the MHO.
“The orientation's general objective is to equip the BSPOs with the necessary skills and knowledge in natural family planning services and to become effective agents in the implementation of the Family Planning Program,” said Janet Cony A. Retamal, Population Program Officer of the Laoag City Population Services.
Retamal explained that the BSPO training will be facilitated by the City Health Office and the Provincial Department of Health Office.
The BSPOs will be trained on the basic facts of human fertility, including male and female anatomy; the basic concept for Natural Family Planning (NFP) methods; phases of the menstrual cycle; and the proper charting of modern NFP methods.
Retamal expressed her elation in the implementation of the said training to advance their campaign for population development and family planning to the youth of the city. (JCR/JPD/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
