VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA)- In support to the 18-day Campaign to End Violence against Women (VAW) Catanduanes State University (CatSU) kicked-off the event with a Eucharistic Mass and Advocacy Parade on November 25, 2022.
This year’s theme: “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines” aims to highlight the gains and milestones achieved in the efforts to prevent and address VAW in the country toward the assessment of VAW-related laws’ implementation and strengthening of the same, the PCC supports the government’s action to sustain the drive towards a VAW-free community.
It also supports the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.
Hence, CatSU has lined-up activities to promote women empowerment and VAW awareness to be conducted from Nov. 25 to December 12, 2022 which includes painting contest for bonafide students of CatAU; Quiz Bee; Song Writing Contest in Bicol; and a seminar.
The Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act No. 9710) defines Gender and Development Program (GAD) as the development perspective and process that is participatory and empowering, equitable, sustainable, free from violence, respectful of human rights, supportive of self-determination and actualization of human potentials.
November 25 of every year was declared as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC By virtue of Republic Act 10398. (EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
