QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered telecommunication companies to submit a report on the issues faced on the very first day of SIM registration.
"You are hereby directed to report to this Commission the incidents of incomplete registration, platform involved, number of subscribers affected, geographical area, and actions taken to address these issues, as well as actions taken to mitigate or eliminate future incidents of similar nature," NTC Deputy Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez told the telcos.
It is said that the telcos were given until Wednesday, Dec. 28, to submi their reports.
"On Tuesday, telcos started the SIM registration as mandated by the SIM Registration Act. In its early hours, however, Globe and Smart subscribers were greeted with server issues despite the companies' assurance to the public that they are ready to accommodate the volume of registrants," according to a report.
"The Commission has received information of numerous incidents involving unsuccessful or incomplete SIM registration from the general public," said the NTC.
"There are also initial social media reports of registration sites being down or inaccessible to subscribers," it added.
Globe expressed their apologies to their subscribers.
"Globe apologized to its subscribers, noting it discovered potential minor vulnerabilities in its microsite. The company also said measures were already implemented to ensure the privacy of subscribers' data," it said in an advisory.
Meanwhile, Cathy Yang, PLDT-Smart first vice president and corporate communications head, told their subscribers to be patient with the capacity of their system. (PIA-NCR)
