QUEZON CITY, (PIA) --The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) join hands to address rampant violations of colorum and illegally parked vehicles at the vicinity of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
On Monday (Jan. 9), the MMDA Task Force on Clearing Operations led by its head, Col. Edison "Bong" Nebrija, conducted clearing operations by towing illegally parked vehicles and apprehending colorum motorcycles or commonly known as "habal-habal" and other colorum vehicles at major thoroughfares near the NAIA Terminals.
The Task Force in collaboration with the MIAA Traffic Police Division, the Pasay LGU, the I-ACT and other member agencies shall continue to undertake more and frequent and spot operations to keep them out of the NAIA.
MIAA General Manager Cesar M. Chiong thank the MMDA for their willingness to help them in solving the problem that has been hounding the airport complex for years.
Chiong was prompted to seek the collaboration of the MMDA because of the heavy traffic around NAIA during the Christmas peak.
The MIAA and MMDA shall impose sanctions, fines and penalties to violators pursuant to existing laws without prejudice to filing of appropriate charges in court.
According to the MMDA report as shared with MIAA, a total of 35 violations was recorded, 29 of which were issued tickets.
In addition to this, 13 vehicles were towed another 13 were impounded. (dotr/pia-ncr)
