The ‘Green Jobs’ and its impact on the economy

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- What are Green Jobs? According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), Green Jobs are decent jobs that help preserve or restore the environment.

Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno expressed support in creating more green jobs.

We will create more jobs, quality jobs, and green jobs by investing in smart infrastructure, human capital, development and digitalization,” said Diokno.

The ILO said that these types of jobs have positive effects on the environment, such as:

  • Increases efficient consumption of energy and raw materials
  • Limits greenhouse gas emissions
  • Minimizes waste and contamination
  • Protects and restores ecosystems
  • Contributes to adaptation to climate change

In April 2016, the Philippines passed the Republic Act No. 10771 or “An Act Promoting the Creation of Green Jobs, Granting Incentives and Appropriating Fund Therefor.”  

The Green Jobs Act aims to promote sustainable growth, create decent jobs and build resilience against climate change through incentives to businesses generating green jobs. (DOF/ILO/PIA-NCR)
