MANILA, (PIA) -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. left for Davos, Switzerland Sunday morning expressing his eagerness to present the Philippines' economic performance and attract more investments during this year's World Economic Forum (WEF).
“The World Economic Forum is hosting a Country Strategy Dialogue for us where we are given the opportunity to promote the Philippines as leader and driver of growth and a gateway to the Asia-Pacific region, one that is open for business, ever ready to complement regional and global expansion plans of both foreign and Philippine-based enterprises anchored on the competent and well-educated Filipino workers, the managers, and professionals,” he said in his pre-departure speech at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
Pres. Marocs will join other world leaders in the event that will be held in Davos from Jan. 16 to 20.
He said the WEF summit meeting is a good opportunity for him to promote the Philippines as a leader and driver of economic growth in Southeast Asia, as he is also intent on promoting beneficial trade, addressing food security, providing accessible social services and pushing for climate action.
“I will draw attention to our efforts at building resilient infrastructure that bolsters our effort to reinforce robust and resilient supply chains, ensure food security, including critical interlinkages with the health and nutrition, while furthering climate-friendly, clean and green energy to power the Philippine economy,” he added.
The theme for WEF 2023 is "Cooperation in A Fragmented World." The Chief Executive said this is quite appropriate since there is the need to collectively bolster and reinforce the Philippines' and the region's post-pandemic economic recovery efforts.
“Moreover, I will share our experience as a model for managing — with our global partners — the disruptive and transformative impact of COVID," he added.
Pres. Marcos is set to attend a high-level dialogue with other world leaders, a stakeholder dialogue on global nutrition and a series of business meetings.
He will also meet with around 700 members of the Filipino community from Switzerland and other countries in Europe.
Moreoever, the President will have an opportunity to have bilateral meetings with other global leaders.
It can be recalled that the World Economic Forum brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, economists, and experts from various fields to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world.
The WEF's mission is to improve the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.
The WEF's annual meeting in Davos is considered one of the most important gatherings of global leaders, as it provides a platform for discussing and addressing a wide range of issues related to the world economy, including economic growth, international trade, and poverty reduction. (PIA-NCR)
