KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) continues to develop, promote, and implement ICT literacy and competency for residents in the Soccsksargen region.
In an interview with DICT XII Regional Director Alimbzar Asum, he said that citizens must learn how to conquer the so-called “digital divide”.
“Tayo ngayon ay namumuhay sa dalawang mundo. Ang real world o actual world at internet o cyber world. Kailangan din po natin matutunan kung paano matuto mamuhay sa internet world,” Asum said.
DICT is implementing Digital Jobs PH Technical Training (DJPH) intended to create meaningful ICT-enabled jobs in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, Asum added.
The program involves training and development of talents to enable them to provide online freelancing services while working from home or in their community.
“Isa po sa gusto natin marating ay yung sinasabing Digital Philippines. Paano po natin ‘yun maa-achieve? Kailangan po natin ng digital workers at para magkaroon ng digital workers at kailangan natin ng digital education,” he said.
Aside from this, DICT is also partnering with local government units for the establishment of Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship for Economic Development (Tech4ED) centers.
Tech4ED project promotes digital inclusion. It is a common space that offers access to relevant content, ICT-enabled services and eGovernment.
Data from DICT 12 show that there are now 288 operational Tech4ED centers in its area of coverage, including cities and municipalities in mainland BARMM and 84 LGUs are already conducting center-based trainings for their residents. (PIA Soccsksargen)
