CEBU CITY, Cebu, Jan. 25 (PIA) -- A total of 376 residents in the Municipality of Moalboal availed of the facilitated SIM registration held in the said town which was selected as the pilot area for the remote SIM registration in Central Visayas on Jan. 25.
The activity was led by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 7 together with the Moalboal municipal government along with the three telecommunication companies - Smart, Globe, and DITO.

According to a press statement from the Moalboal Public Information Office (PIO), of the total number of people who registered, there were 220 Smart users, 111 Globe users, and 45 DITO users.

"Atong assessment sa atong gitawag nga facilitated SIM registration, so far this morning daghan ang nianhi diri natu sa tulo ka telecommunication companies, si Smart, Globe og DITO. Ato pud gi assist ang mga senior citizens sa ilang pag rehistro sa ilang mga SIM card pinaagi sa atong mga priority lanes (In our assessment during the facilitated SIM registration this morning is that there were many people who availed of the services from Smart, Globe, and DITO. We also assisted senior citizens in registering their SIM card by setting up priority lanes),” said NTC-7 Regional Director Sophia Lynn Lumantod in an interview with Moalboal PIO.

With the success of the remote SIM registration, Lumantod encouraged all SIM users in Central Visayas to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the remote SIM registration.

"Akong giawhag ang tanan dili lang diri sa Moalboal kung dili apil napud sa laing dapit sa Region 7 nga magparehistro nata. Tara na, SIM-registered na ta! (I encourage everyone not only those who are here in Moalboal but in other areas in Region 7 to have their SIM cards registered),” added Lumantod.

The remote SIM registration was part of the nationwide facilitated SIM registration from Jan. 25-27 held in various remote areas of the country.

This aims to further improve and speed up the implementation of Republic Act 11934, better known as the SIM Registration Act, which was the first law signed by Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. in October 2022. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu with reports from Moalboal LGU)
