AFOS, gov’t partners ink MOA for FISH Visayas Project

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Feb. 3 (PIA) -- Representatives from the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the region signed an agreement with the AFOS Foundation on Feb. 2 to formalize the FISH Visayas Project’s partnership at a regional level.

Under the said agreement, the said government agencies and AFOS will collaborate and coordinate their efforts through programs and activities to promote sustainable fisheries and related food value chains in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.

There will also be a regular exchange of information about all major developments, issues, and extraordinary incidents in the project.

In her speech, AFOS Foundation Project Manager Yvette Hope Labus is hopeful that the three-year FISH Visayas Project will reach its expected goals and objectives.

The project aims to provide trainings for fishermen and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), dual training in the fisheries sector, and Market Access and Resource Protection.

Also present during the signing was Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Charles Kenneth Co, the main partner in the Philippines of AFOS Foundation. (MYP/PIA7)
