DSWD eyes return of food stamp program

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian plans to restore the food coupon program to the agency to reduce the hunger problem of many poor Filipinos.

According to Gatchalian, the move is a reaction to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey last month that said there are 3 million families experiencing hunger.

He said the problem of poverty cannot be solved quickly, but the "pains" caused by hunger can be quickly solved by providing food on the dining table of every Filipino family.

He said that he is already talking to the DSWD undersecretaries for the possible return of the food stamp program in coordination with the private sector to achieve the success of such program.

According to Gatchalian, he will continue the implementation of digitalization in the delivery of services to the people that was first done by former DSWD secretary Erwin Tulfo. (PIA-NCR)
