DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Feb. 6 (PIA) -- To further promote the importance of water and sanitation in schools and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among young people, lthe Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) installed a ten-faucet handwashing facility at the Dumaguete City National High School (DCNHS)
The installation and inauguration of the said facility was marked by a ceremony on Feb. 1 attended by officials from MDW, Department of Education (DepEd), and the school administration.
The construction of the handwashing facility is part of MDW’s "Hugas Luwas Dumaguete" campaign which aims to support the fight the spread of the dreaded virus by instilling among individuals a proper handwashing routine.
It also aims to provide stakeholders with access to clean water.
This move also helps schools adapt to the “new normal systems” especially since in-person classes have already resumed.
“More schools will be supported and more programs will be implemented as MDW is one with the government in this goal to bring back the students to schools,” MDW Chief Executive Offer David Berba said.
DepEd representative Jose Miraflor acknowledged MDW’s programs which not only supports schools but also enhances the city’s water services.
"We hope to forge a stronger partnership with MDW and look forward to more development of our water services in Dumaguete,” Miraflor said.
Meanwhile, DCNHS Principal Alden Rabina thanked MDW for choosing his school as the beneficiary of their program.
“Right from the start, MDW initiated and reached out to us for any support DCNHS needed, and it’s these discussions that made this dream into reality,” said Rabina.
The installation and turnover of the handwashing facility is part of the activities to mark MDW’s second anniversary on the same day. (RAL/PIA7 Negros Oriental with reports from Kate Young, MDW)
