PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- Good news! The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) National Capital Region recently opened a new and world-class tennis court complex at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
“An inspiration to push forward with the upcoming UAAP season,” said UP Women’s Lawn Tennis Team Social Media Manager, Ms. Anna Laura De Myer.
De Myer expressed her gratitude to DPWH NCR and said that tennis players are now given new facilities to conduct their training.
Since its construction on June 18, 2021, the project will now be utilized by the UP athletic community, and tennis team to hone their skills and train in better conditions.
UP President Professor Danilo L. Concepcion shared how the UP community collaborated with the DPWH QC2nd DEO headed by District Engineer Ramon P. Devanadera, and the DPWH NCR led by Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan in making the dream for a world-class tennis court complex, designed after international quality standard be constructed in the UP Diliman grounds.
Malaluan shared the careful process of construction works, referencing that the asphalt laid on the tennis courts is top-grade and was carefully set down via an asphalt applicator controlled by the expert hands of certified operators, all aiming to uphold world-class standards and groundbreaking design.
According to DPWH, the Php 51.1-million project provided four tennis courts; a multi-purpose room; public open space; a spectator area during games; a 50-capacity classroom; administrative offices; storage spaces; and restrooms equipped with showers, PWD washrooms, and lockers for men and women.
Likewise, the project will serve not just as a training ground exclusive to UP students but also become a vibrant venue for sports and leisure, where tennis enthusiasts can take lessons at affordable rates. (DPWH/PIA-NCR)
