NegOr crimes down in 2022

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Feb. 13 (PIA) -- The Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) reported that crime volume in the province decreased by 1,034 or 17.4% in 2022, compared to the same period in 2021.

NOPPO presented the report during a Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting.

Despite the drop in crime volume, PPOC showed dissatisfaction to NOPPO’s report as PLt. Varie Villanobos, NOPPO police representative, failed to provide an update on the status of the recent killings of Don Paulo Teves, the brother of Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves Jr.

Both Provincial Director Farah Gentuya of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), acting as the presiding officer, and Provincial Board Member Jessica Villanueva expressed their disappointment, saying that social media posts have allegedly been providing more information on the incident.

Meanwhile, Villanobos in the same meeting, reported a drop in crime incidents in the province, from 5,929 in 2021 to 4,895 in 2022.

This is attributed to the active participation of partner government agencies and local government units.

He added that the peace and order situation in the province remains generally peaceful and manageable.

The POI (peace and order indicator) index crimes decreased by 88 or 14.3% while POI non-index crimes noted to have declined by 877 or 29.4%, the police officer said.

Offenses related to damage to property have declined by 65 (5.28%); homicide, 19 (25.68%); and 23 (2.25%) for physical injury.

Peace and Safety Indicator (PSI), on the other hand, comprises totality of the vehicular incidents and other quasi-offenses punishable under the Revised Penal Code.

For non-index crimes or offenses punishable under the Revised Penal Code and Special Laws such as enforcement on Republic Act 9165 or Anti-Illegal Drugs campaign, 42 drug personalities were arrested and 829.15 grams of shabu were seized with a total value of P5,638,220 million.

Under Republic Act 9287 or the campaign against illegal gambling, the police arrested 167 persons with total bet money confiscated at P 17,900.00.

For the campaign against loose firearms or R.A. 8294, the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) arrested five persons and seized/recovered 114 firearms.

A crime is considered as cleared when law enforcers has identified the suspect and filed a case against him or her, but the suspect has not yet been arrested.

On the other hand, crime solution efficiency means that the perpetrator has been arrested and was filed with appropriate charges.
The provincial police recorded the Crime Clearance Efficiency rate at 99.10%, while Crime Solution Efficiency is at 84.11% in 2022. (JCT/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
