Tolentino wants NCR earthquake contingency plan updated

MANILA, (PIA) -- Senator Francis Tolentino has suggested updating the contingency plan of Metro Manila and the entire country for the strongest possible earthquake.

According to Sen. Tolentino, the national building code should also be updated as well in order to ensure that all buildings and infrastructure are earthquake-resistant.

There should also be established telecommunication infrastructures that can be used during emergencies, he said.

The Senator further insisted that Metro Manila should prepare a new plan for the impact of the earthquake because there has been an increase in infrastructure such as new buildings in Taguig City, Quezon City and even in the reclaimed area in Pasay City and Parañaque City.

He also said that the plan should also include the addition of an evacuation centers and while they are being prepared, earthquake drills should also be conducted more frequently.

Tolentino further said that when he was the chairperson of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), earthquake drills were frequently conducted in Metro Manila.

A study shows that magnitude 7.2 is the strongest earthquake that could hit Metro Manila. (PIA-NCR)
