MANILA, (PIA) -- A partylist representative is pushing to give P5,000 aid to the more than 4 million minimum wage earners in the country to cushion the effects of high inflation rate.

According to House Deputy Speaker and Trade Union Congress of the Philippines Partylist Representative Raymond Mendoza, there is a need to develop a "financial assistance program" to be called "BBM Assistance Para Sa Manggagawan Pilipino" or BAMP for the distribution of cash assistance that is much needed by the working class.

According to Mendoza, the people are suffering a lot due to inflation or the rapid increase in the price of products and services.

Under the BAMP, a "one-time big-time P5,000" financial aid will be given to the 4 million minimum wage earners whose funds will be taken from the Presidential Social Fund. Mendoza emphasized that the purpose of BAMP is to help both workers and businesses amid the current inflation being experienced.

The said initiative also aims to strengthen the economy through the consumption or purchase by workers of the needs of their families while continuing to recover from the crisis of COVID-19, the war between Russia and Ukraine, global recession and climate change.

The solon emphasized that the record-high 8.7 percent inflation rate is not a joke, so it is timely to have "urgency" or quick action to help workers in poverty and hunger. (PIA-NCR)
