QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The city government of Caloocan enjoins constituents in an inclusive celebration of women empowerment in observance of the National Women’s Month this March 2023.
Among the relevant activities that the local government dedicated to champion the various societal causes of women is a learning program centered on the salient features of the Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act and Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act known as the Bawal Bastos Law.
Before the audience composed of business sectors in the city, Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan instilled the importance of knowing and understanding the legal information about the rights of women, especially in the workplace to prevent gender-based violence, discrimination, and institutionalized abuse.
“Napakahalaga po ng mga usaping ito upang malaman ng ating mga kababayan ang kanilang mga karapatan at mga nararapat nilang gawin upang madepensahan ang kanilang sarili, kasamahan sa trabaho, o empleyado laban sa karahasan at pang-aabuso (These subject matters are very important in order for our constituents to know their rights and what they should do to defend themselves, their co-workers or employees against violence and abuse),” Mayor Malapitan said.
More than 50 participants from the local business sector attended the said orientation that was facilitated by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in close cooperation with the Caloocan City Tripartite Industrial Peace Council.
Meanwhile, the city government also held Miss Caloocan 2023, a pageant showcasing and celebrating the grace, passion, beauty, and intelligence of all Filipinas.
The coronation night featured 22 contenders from the city residents who vied for the coveted crown on Saturday, February 25.
“Miss Caloocan is more than just flaunting the candidate’s beauty, rather, it is our way of showcasing what an empowered woman looks like - determinado at may dedikasyon na maabot ang pangarap. Hindi takot magpahayag ng saloobin, at may pakialam sa lipunan,” Malapitan expressed, citing this event as the ‘most relevant celebration of women empowerment in the historical city of Caloocan.’
Natasha Jung of Barangay 179 was hailed as Miss Caloocan 2023 besting 21 candidates. She also bagged major and special awards during the grand finale such as ‘Best in Evening Gown’ in particular.
The city mayor likewise expressed hopes for the candidates to serve as an epitome and inspiration to the young by continuously promoting their advocacies so that the city can have more leaders who will support the local government in addressing the various issues confronting the contemporary society.
