QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is strengthening its advocacy in the battle against hunger by forming alliances with United Nations (UN) agencies.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian recently met with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Gustavo Gonzales, Development Coordination Office (DCO) Regional Director for Asia Pacific David Mclachlan-Karr, and UN delegates to discuss actions to end hunger and provide efficient disaster response in the Philippines.

One of the things addressed during the conference was the digital food stamp, which would function as a key to obtain items from grocery stores. This will also be linked to local marketplaces, which will be advantageous to farmers.

In terms of disaster response, DSWD Secretary Gatchalian stated that the agency will prioritize the building of warehouses and hubs in local districts to provide prompt reaction during natural disasters. (PIA-NCR)
