QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Officers of Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) in Valenzuela City took their oath on Monday, March 6 in observance of the National Women’s Month.
MOVE is an organization of principled men whose members have dedicated their time to be actively involved in eliminating all forms of violence against women (VAW). It was launched through the initiative of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) on November 27, 2006 during the commemoration of the 18-Day Campaign to end VAW.
During the event, Valenzuela City Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja emphasized the importance of having an equal discernment in terms of the potentials of men and women in the ever-changing societal landscape.
“Maraming pagbabago ang ating lipunan at bilang tayo’y mamamayan, kailangan tayong sumabay, at dun sa pagsabay natin sa changes ng ating society kailangan suportahan natin ang kakayahan ng bawat isa - ke-lalaki, ke-babae, ang mahalaga, tama at nakakapagpa-una sa ating mga sarili at sa ating mga pamilya (There are a lot of changes in our society and as its members, we need to keep the pace, and along with that we have to support the potentials of each other - be it man, be it woman, as long as it’s right and geared towards the efficacy of ourselves and our family),” Vice Mayor Natividad-Borja said.
Councilor Niña Lopez Chairperson of the City Council Committee on Women, Family, and Gender Equality, for her part enjoin everyone to continue the fight for gender equality.
“Let us continue to spread news to everyone po na we have to give love and respect po sa lahat po ng ating taong nakakahalubilo, sa lahat po ng ating taong nakakausap, regardless of their gender or regardless of what they think their gender is,” Councilor Lopez said.
Also present during the ceremony were Liga ng mga Baranagay president, Councilor Jon Jon Bartolome, and City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO) Head Dorothy Go-Evangelista.
The event was spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) together with the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) in line with the celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month. (PIA-NCR)
