DILG-led RIMTF 12 caps weeklong assessment of local children’s councils

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) -- Members of the Regional Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force (RIMTF) wrapped up Friday their weeklong review of documents validating the functionality of local children’s council especially in drawing and implementing plans for the promotion of child and youth welfare in SOCCSKSARGEN region’s four provinces and one highly urbanized city (HUC).

The RIMTF is composed of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Health (DOH), National Nutrition Council (NNC), Department of Education (DepEd), and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

The team is also assisted by child-focused institutions and non-government organizations like Save the Children and Notre Dame of Marbel University.

Assessment of the local council for the protection of children (LCPC) of Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Cotabato, and Sarangani as well as General Santos City for the HUC category started on March 14.

The establishment of local councils for the protection of children (LCPC) is mandated by statutes taking into account the fact that children are the ones who are most vulnerable to neglect, abuse and exploitation, as stipulated in Republic Act Nos. 9344 and 10630.

The LCPC assessors evaluated the functionality of the four provinces and one HUC under the four areas of concern: organizational sustainability, policies and plans for children, budget for the P/HUC CPC, and service delivery monitoring and management for children, covering the CY 2022 assessment period.

Local councils for the protection of children are organized at the provincial, city, municipal, and barangay levels and serve as the umbrella organization for all children’s concerns. (PIA XII)
