Catanduanes pregnant mothers mark 'Buntis' Day

VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA) - This provincial government and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) Catanduanes Chapter, teamed up to mark the observance of the Buntis Day with maternal care  last Friday,17, at the Provincial Convention Center.

A total of 180 pregnant women and lactating mothers took part in the activity that formed part of the province’s commitment in supporting Catandunganon mothers and the gift of motherhood.

This year's theme was: “Pagsulong Tungo sa Malusog at Ligtas na Pagdadalang-Tao.” 

During the activity, Dr. Ruth Lizaso-Dy, POGS Catanduanes chapter coordinator, welcomed the participants to the annual celebration which included a series of lectures on prenatal care, nutrition exercise during pregnancy, and women’s rights. On the other hand, lawyer Michevelli Samonte provided a seminar on violence against women and their children.

Nutrition counseling, laboratory, and pre-natal check-up were given for free by the Municipal Nutrition Action Office, Island Diagnostic Lab, Eastern Bicol Medical Center, and Dr. Marianne Lianko-Tresvalles. Participants also received complimentary multivitamins, milk, and a mother’s book from major sponsors during the celebration.

A Sayuntis TikTok Dance Challenge and raffle were also conducted with infant and pregnant women products such as cribs, strollers, and baby clothes as prizes.

Steering the event were Provincial Health Officer Robert John Aquino, Provincial Administrator Lemuel P. Surtida,  Vice Governor Peter C. Cua, POGS Ginang Buntis 2021 Kristine Anne Olonan-Manoguid and PCL President Joselito Alberto, who represented Governor Joseph C. Cua. (PIA5/Catanduanes)
