SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Municipal Health Office (MHO) of San Jose recently conducted a simultaneous barangay medical mission in Inasakan Island and Brgy. Monteclaro to provide medical services to people situated in far-flung areas.

One hundred and eighty (180) Indigenous People (IPs) from six sitios, namely: Balingaso, Dagatdagatan, Ybanig, Taganop, Mantay, and Masay in Brgy. Monteclaro were provided services such as medical check-up, PhilHealth profiling for Konsulta Program, Antenatal care and random blood sugar testing, Isoniazid preventive treatment, and COVID-19 vaccination.

The same services were also provided to 122 residents in Inasakan Island. Other activities, such as Municipal Social Welfare and Development assessment, sanitation monitoring and inspection, and provider-initiated and counseling testing were also conducted to maximize the team’s medical services in the areas.

According to Dr. Lordivino T. Mesina, OIC Municipal Health Officer, their office regularly conducts medical missions to meet the people’s medical needs, prioritizing far-flung sitios and barangays during the summer where roads and transportation are accessible. Brgy. Monteclaro is located near the mountains, requiring at least two (2) hours of walk and crossing several rivers to reach from the main road, while Inasakan Island can only be accessed through a boat ride. Barangay Health Workers, nurses, and doctors from MHO led the activity. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA)
