COVID-19 hospital admissions up

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- A group of private hospitals has announced that admissions to their COVID-19 wards have increased in the past three days.

"For the past two or three days the number of cases has really increased a little bit, admissions have also increased a little bit here in our private hospitals," according to the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PHAPI) President Dr. Jose Rene de Grano.

This Case Bulletin of the DOH this past May 15, recorded 18.8 percent bed utilization in ICUs and 21.7 percent utilization in non-ICU beds in private and public hospitals.

De Grano said that in the past three days, their admission to the COVID wards has reached 20 percent to 50 percent depending on the number of beds allocated by a hospital. It is said that most of these are only mild cases.

The official, however, said that the situation is still manageable. It is said that some of the cases in the COVID wards were brought to the hospital due to other illnesses but when they were tested, they tested positive for COVID-19.

Among the areas with an increase in COVID-19 admissions are the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, and Davao Region. (PIA-NCR)
