PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- Good news! The University of Makati (UMak) was placed at the 101-200 Global Top Innovative Universities by the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) .
The University of Makati is at the 186th rank and among the Universities from the Philippines, UMak ranks 28th, the only Local University in the list considering it is UMak's first attempt to participate in the global ranking.
According to the city government, the significant recognition establishes the position of our institution towards the transformation of the conventional education to strategic, innovative, relevant and responsive learning experience.
The World University Rankings for Innovation (The WURI) evaluates the university’s real contributions to society, highlighting creative and innovative approaches of universities' research and educational programs based on the following categories:
- Industrial Application, rather than the traditional ways of counting research papers and lecture-type teaching;
- Value-Creating startups and entrepreneurship, rather than a traditional focus on the number of jobs filled;
- Social Responsibility, Ethics, and Integrity, rather than a focus on knowledge and skills just for material success;
- Student Mobility and Openness for exchange and collaboration between schools and across national borders, rather than an independent yet closed system;
- Crisis Management in the midst of climate change, COVID-19 pandemic, and other global and local crisis;
- Progress during the Fourth Industrial Revolution through digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud services, blockchain, and so on.
