NCCA calls Calabarzon artists to submit competitive grant proposals

BATANGAS CITY (PIA) — The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is urging artists and accredited cultural groups in the Calabarzon region to submit proposals for its 2024 competitive grants program.

In a separate press briefings held recently in Batangas and Quezon, Renee Talavera, NCCA’s Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts Head, announced that they are accepting proposals for the competitive grants until August 31, 2023.

Talavera said eligible individuals and organizations may submit proposals based on the identified priority projects of the commission.

“There is a long list of projects that we support like workshops/ trainings, congress, conferences, festivals, productions, performances, musical, competitions, research and documentation, exhibition, travel grants, scholarships and others that are identified as priority by the Commission,” Talavera said.

She said the competitive grants is open to institutions and individuals of legal age but must first seek accreditation from the NCCA.

“Those who have interest in applying for the NCCA grants need to have their eligibility thus, the need to file for an accreditation for Civil Society Organization, People’s Organization, Indigenous Peoples Organizations, local government units, government agencies, state colleges and universities, and public schools,” Talavera stressed.

However, certain individuals and organizations including officials, employees, and Executive Council (ExeCon) members of the NCCA and their relatives up to the fourth civil degree of affinity and consanguinity are barred from submitting proposals, according to Talavera. Also disqualified are organizations and institutions where ExeCon members serve as officers and incorporators.

Talavera said that each proponent may submit only one project proposal. Interested applicants shall accomplish the NCCA project proposal form that can be downloaded from its website (https://ncca.gov.ph/ncca-competitive-grants-program).

The program implemented through the National Endowment Fund for Culture and the Arts (NEFCA), is awarding grants to artists and cultural groups for the development, protection, preservation, and dissemination of Philippine culture and arts.

According to NCCA, the Competitive Grants is competitive in nature since the approval of project proposals pass through a rigorous and confidential evaluation process based on merit such as quality and relevance to Commission priorities.

Under Sec. 12.a.4 of Republic Act 7356(NCCA Charter), the NCCA is authorized to give grants to artists and cultural groups which contribute significantly to the Filipino’s cultural legacy as means to extend artistic achievement. (Bhaby De Castro, PIA Batangas)
