The Department of Agriculture (DA), in support to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), issued two Administrative Circulars (ACs) that will protect animals from inhumane treatment in the media and entertainment industry, and protect imported cats and dogs in temporary holding areas for airport quarantine.
On March 26, Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar signed an AC for the guidelines for the inhumane use of animals in the media and entertainment and another one as supplemental guideline, particularly DA Administrative Order No. 9 series of 2010 section 7.d., for the importation of pet dogs and cats
The ceremonial signing was witnessed by PAWS volunteers with Program Director Anna Cabrera, and officials from the DA-Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
“Let me thank PAWS for bringing this to the attention of the Department of Agriculture. We have to be humane in terms of handling our dogs and cats. We signed two admin circulars in relation to this effort, to really take good care our dogs and cats,” Secretary Dar said.
During the ceremony, PAWS also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the agri chief for his support to animal welfare through various DA programs. (DA-AFID)
