NAVAL, Biliran -- A safe and a convenient travel are now being experienced by motorists traveling along Naval Caibiran Cross Country Road (NCCCR) with the completion of two emergency repair projects of damaged national road with slips, slope collapse and landslide at Sitio Macalpe, Brgy. Cabibihan in Caibiran town.
District Engineer Ferdinand A. Briones said these projects amounting to P79.8-M will prevent the recurrence of landslides thereby preventing road closures or road accidents along NCCCR.
Major scope of work for these projects involve the concreting of a four-lane road to provide a wider roadway for the increasing vehicular users and the installation of gabions, the first of its kind in this province.
According to Engr. Eddeli G. Nedrua, programmer, the design of the projects eliminates the devastating water pressure by allowing the water to pass through the retaining wall.
The road at NCCCR is essential for residents in the town of Caibiran and to its neighboring town, Culaba for a faster access to the only Provincial Hospital and other basic essential services like banks and other financial institutions in the capital town of Naval. This road also leads to one of the most visited waterfalls in Caibiran town which is the Tinago Falls.
“The installation of these gabions for slope stability and erosion protection has also added the scenic views along NCCCR,” said Briones.
From its start date on June 10, 2020 these projects were completed on April 23, 2021 under FY 2019 funding. (DPWH-BDEO)
