Decommissioned MILF combatants undergo values transformation training

PARANG, Maguindanao -- Some 30 Moro Islamic Liberation Front Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (MILF-BIAF) decommissioned combatants completed a three-day Values Transformation Training (VTT) held here from June 29 to July 1.
This is the first of 15 batches of VTTs spearheaded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process’ (OPAPP) Task Force for Decommissioned Combatants and their Communities (TFDCC), in partnership with the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) and the Nonviolent Peaceforce.

Mohalidin Usop Unsi from Barira, a decommissioned MILF combatant from Maguindanao, shared his thoughts on the VTT training.

VTTs are among the capacity development initiatives being carried out by the TFDCC under the socioeconomic component of the normalization track.
It is a key component in transforming the attitudes and practices of the decommissioned combatants as they return to their communities as peaceful and productive civilians.

The values training includes approaches in teaching Islamic values, which is found to be effective in providing moral guidance to Muslims.

VTT is offered to decommissioned combatants and their family members, and is administered at basic and advanced levels. The advanced course is offered to those who have previously completed the basic training on VTT.

Other topics during the training included Values Transformation and Personal Values Clarification; Concept of Islamic Values and Moral Governance; Faith and its Articles; The Role of Faith; The Islamic Ibaadaat; Role of Ibaadaat in Developing Islamic Values for Moral Governance; Applying Islamic Values for Moral Governance; and Islamic Values in dealing with Non-Muslims.

The participants also took part in a Halaqaat or study circle wherein they reflected on their personal experiences during the training. (OPAPP)
