DepEd TV Awards launched to recognize outstanding teacher-broadcasters, production teams

PASIG CITY -- Celebrating a year of successful educational broadcasting amidst the pandemic, the Department of Education (DepEd) has launched the first-ever DepEd TV Awards to recognize the outstanding performance of teacher-broadcasters (TBs) and production teams of the program.

“We are always thankful to our teacher-broadcasters and production crews who have served tirelessly to continue educating our children despite the situation. The DepEd TV project has really brought countless stories of resiliency and creativity of our personnel and we want to recognize them for their service,” Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said.

Set to happen on the first founding anniversary of the initiative on August 20, the DepEd TV Awards will give out 50 different accolades for kinder, elementary, and secondary TV lessons aired from August 2020 to July 2021.

“We are encouraging all teacher-broadcasters, production teams, school heads, schools division superintendents, regional directors, and their respective local government units to participate and submit entries for the different categories of awards,” Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua said.

Usec. Pascua added that the DepED TV Awards will be held annually to add motivation to the TBs and production teams as they continue to create high-quality and world-class educational TV lessons.

The DepEd TV Awards are divided into four sections namely, the Outstanding Teacher-Broadcaster Awards (Level-Based and Subject-Based), the Broadcast Production Awards, the DepEd Core Values Awards, and the Special Awards.

The Special Awards aim to honor the exemplary contribution of the DepEd TV TBs, Production Teams, DepEd local offices, schools, and the Local Government Units in delivering education amid the pandemic through the TV-based instruction modality.

The deadline for submission for nominations is on July 24, 2021, to give participants enough time to produce additional video lessons aside from the aired ones. Three nominated entries per category will be shortlisted and evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges.

To help establish DepEd TV Awards as a prestigious award-giving body, the board of judges for the official entries will be composed of veteran journalists, writers, directors, producers, educators, and experts in basic education, broadcasting, and video production.

Some of the initial prizes for the DepEd TV Awards winners include DepEd laptops, PLDT smartphones, 100GB connectivity load, and trophies, while all finalists will receive certificates of recognition.

The DepEd TV Awards is spearheaded by the DepEd OUA, with the help of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), DepEd TV Core Team, Program Managers, Training Team, Production Team, and the EdTech Unit. (DepEd)
