DSWD warns public against phone call scam

QUEZON CITY -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) advises the public to be extra vigilant and to not entertain calls from individuals posing to be a representative from the Department.

Reports from various people including media persons have been received by the Department that they were called by individuals introducing themselves as DSWD employees and were asking for their personal information in exchange for financial assistance.

The Department emphasized that it will not ask for such information pursuant to Data Privacy Act of 2012 and will take appropriate action and investigation regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the DSWD said that, at present, its financial assistance including the provision of food and non-food items, is extended through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations through the Department's Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) located at the Central
Office and in all DSWD Field Offices nationwide. CIU clients undergo assessment to avail of the needed assistance.

For any similar incident, the public is advised to report it to the DSWD Agency Operations Center through the 8888 hotline. (DSWD)
