PASAY CITY -- On Friday, July 9, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go sent assistance to fire victims in Las Piñas City as part of his pledge to help more underprivileged communities recover from fire incidents and calamities amid the global pandemic.
Go’s personnel carried out the distribution activity at Greymarville Covered Court where they handed out financial assistance, grocery packs, meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins to eight families. To ensure the safety of the beneficiaries, they followed necessary health protocols imposed by the government.
In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development granted each beneficiary with financial assistance while the Department of Trade and Industry assessed qualified beneficiaries who will be given livelihood support.
Furthermore, representatives from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority assessed possible recipients for their scholarship grants.
As part of his commitment to provide access to quality healthcare, Go, in his video message, informed the beneficiaries that they may visit any of the 26 Malasakit Centers across Metro Manila out of the 129 established nationwide if they may need any assistance for their hospital bills.
The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 was principally authored and sponsored by Go in the Senate. The law aims to establish one-stop shops in public hospitals where concerned agencies, such as DSWD, DOH, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, can efficiently assist poor and indigent patients cover their medical expenses.
“Batas na po’ yan, isinulong ko noon, pinirmahan ni Pangulong Duterte. Lapitan niyo lang po ang Malasakit Center para po ‘yan sa Pilipino, wala pong pinipili ang Malasakit Center, handang tumulong sa ating mahihirap, lapitan niyo lang po,” said Go.
Go also reminded the beneficiaries to observe necessary health preventive measures, and pushed them to take part in the vaccination program. Saying, “Tandaan ninyo, kung mahal po ninyo ang inyong pamilya, dapat po protektado kayo at magpabakuna na ho kayo.”
To further enhance the capabilities of the Bureau of Fire Protection in addressing fire-related incidences, Go continues to push for the passage of Senate Bill No. 1832, otherwise known as the BFP Modernization Act.
