MANDALUYONG CITY -- The Philippine Red Cross celebrated the National CPR Day last Saturday, July 17, 2021, together with the Department of Health, Department of Education, and the Philippine Heart Association through an online webinar with more than 500 participants attending. As of writing the Facebook live coverage of the event reached a total of 50.9K views.
For the online celebration, PRC delivered informative videos including on how to make a DIY CPR Manikin so people can train to do CPRs at home, perform hands-only CPR for young hands, the BPM-100 Dance Challenge that Red Cross recently released as a TikTok challenge, and of course a message from the PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard J. Gordon.
"I saw with great pride young people aged 9 to 12 doing CPR and doing first aid. CPR is necessary for the Philippine Red Cross to live up to its promise of being the premier humanitarian organization, not only in the Philippines but also in Asia," said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Richard J. Gordon. "Red Cross will always support the Department of Health, the Department of Education, and Philippine Heart Association, in promoting CPR to all corners of our country. Dahil importante ang marunong, importante ang sumagip ng buhay."
National CPR Day is being celebrated every 17th of July following the Republic Act No. 10871, otherwise known as the "Samboy Lim Law". The law was created in honor of Samboy Lim who tragically suffered a cardiac arrest during warm-up sessions before a game.
Due to the challenges brought by the pandemic, 2021's National CPR Day celebration was held online and among this year's key messages for the event is to encourage the youth to learn CPR, in immediate response to cardiac emergencies. (Philippine Red Cross)
