MANILA -- Further tightening its efforts to curb smuggling, the Bureau of Customs – Manila International Container Port (BOC-MICP) through its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), seized illegally imported red onions on July 17, 2021.
Through an Alert Order (AO) issued by the District Collector Romeo Allan R. Rosales, the two containers were consigned to Flevo Trading and declared as White Onions from China. 100% examination was conducted by the assigned customs examiner which yielded positive findings of Red Onions.
The examination was conducted by members of Section 1 of the Formal Entry Division (FED) and witnessed by MICP-CIIS and Enforcement and Security Service (ESS). An estimated Php 10 Million worth of misdeclared Red Onions were seized and a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) was immediately issued against the subject shipments.
In his statement, District Collector Rosales stated that the smuggling of Red Onions has been greatly affecting local industries. He further stressed that MICP shall ensure that proper declaration is done and necessary permits must be secured to properly import those of goods which are regulated in nature.
MICP remains steadfast in its commitment to protect the borders and support local industries as part of the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero. (BOC)
