PHLPost endorses acceptance of PhilID in Post Offices

MANILA -- The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) endorses the acceptance of the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card as a valid proof of identification in all Post Office transactions through PHLPost circular no. 21-51, issued on 22 June 2021, following the advisory by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

“We support the introduction of PhilID as a proof of identification in Post Office transactions nationwide”, Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio said.

The PHLPost circular states: “In as much as the PSA has already launched the third and final step of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) registration and distribution of the PhilID cards to successful registrants, the PhilID card shall be accepted as a proof of identification in all transactions of the public with the Post Office, effective immediately.”

PhilID cardholders looking to transact with local post offices no longer need to present other identifying documents upon presenting their PhilID.

In partnership with the PSA, PHLPost delivers PhilID card and PhilSys Number (PSN) to successful registrants as part of the PhilSys Step 3 Registration. PHLPost has successfully delivered the first batch of PhilID cards in May 2021. As of 05 July 2021, over 300,000 PhilIDs have been delivered to the registrants.

According to Republic Act No. 11055 otherwise known as the PhilSys Act, the PhilID card shall serve as the official government-issued identification document of cardholders in dealing with all national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs), government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs), government financial institutions (GFIs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and all private sector entities.

Under Section 19 of the Act, any person or entity who will refuse to accept or recognize the PhilID or PSN as official identification of the holder, without just and sufficient cause, shall be fined an amount equivalent to five hundred thousand pesos (PhP 500,000.00).
