MANILA -- Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 led the inauguration ceremony of the newly-completed Mandaluyong City Jail in Barangay Plainview.
“We are glad to turn-over this correctional facility that can accommodate up to 5,000 inmates, helping them have better living conditions especially during pandemic wherein social distancing is of utmost importance,” said Secretary Villar.
According to Secretary Villar, the new Mandaluyong City Jail, built strategically beside the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) buildings, is equipped with a state-of-the-art jail automation security with CCTV facilities, elevator, generator facility, and fire protection system as well as office spaces for BJMP and PNP personnel.
The 9,873-square meter facility located in the City Government Complex in Maysilo Circle will house some 2,000 present inmates of the now-congested city jail in its spacious and well-ventilated dormitories; kitchen and laundry facilities; livelihood, recreational, and multi-purpose area; isolation and infirmary rooms; and sports facility located at the roof deck.
“This project is a testament of BJMP and DILG’s efforts in addressing growing concerns in jail management as well as improving institutional services targeted for every Filipino,” added Secretary Villar.
