BANTAYAN, Cebu -- Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario on Thursday led the awarding of housing units and groundbreaking ceremony for a mini-market and covered court intended for residents affected by super typhoon Yolanda in the remote island of Bantayan, Cebu.
The housing czar graced the turnover of 450 housing units by the National Housing Authority (NHA) to beneficiaries in Barangay Kabac, Bantayan town.
According to Secretary Del Rosario, the awarding of housing units and provision of new facilities are in line with the government’s commitment in helping Filipino families affected by previous calamities.
“Together with our key shelter agencies such as the NHA, our Department remains committed to reaching out to Filipino families, especially those impacted by natural disasters and from the low-income bracket, in providing them decent housing and sustainable and resilient communities,” Secretary Del Rosario stressed.
“It is part of our responsibility to help and capacitate the underprivileged and the underserved to have a house of their own,” he noted.
Joining the housing czar at the turnover ceremony were Assistant Secretary Leira Buan, Bantayan Mayor Art Despi, DHSUD Region 7 OIC-Director Francis Ordeniza and NHA Region 7 Manager Hermes Jude Juntilo.
Secretary Del Rosario likewise led the signing of a memorandum of agreement and breaking of ground for the construction of a covered court and mini-market also in the area. The DHSUD chief said the projects will be carried out using incentivized compliance by partner developers to balanced housing program.
“These facilities will play a pivotal role in promoting and achieving our goal of providing decent homes on sustainable communities for all Filipino families, even those in the remotest areas of the country,” Secretary Del Rosario said.
