MANILA -- Vaccinated passengers may get free snacks being offered by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) at PPA port terminals across the country following the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade to support to the government’s pandemic efforts and encourage the public to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
In a memorandum dated today, 3 August 2021, PPA General Manager Jay Santiago ordered all port managers to give vaccinated passengers free snacks in all PPA port terminals starting today until 20 August 2021.
“In support of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, and in consonance with the mandate of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to keep its ports safe, you are directed to make available free light snacks for all vaccinated passengers passing through terminals under your area of responsibility,” Santiago told port managers.
The free snacks at the PPA port terminals will cover passengers who have received the required number of COVID-19 doses or partial doses, the memorandum said.
The PPA memorandum was issued after Secretary Tugade ordered the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2), Manila Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) and Philippine National Railways (PNR) to also provide free rides to vaccinated commuters and authorized persons outside the residence (APORs) starting today until 20 August 2021.
“Ang inisyatibong ito ay napagkasunduan ng buong Kagawaran ng Transportasyon upang makatulong sa pagpapanatili ng kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan, at upang matulungan ang gobyerno na mahikayat ang ating mga kababayan na magpabakuna,” said Tugade.
Port passengers only need to present proof of their vaccination with their names and date of vaccination to avail of the free snacks, it added.
Secretary Tugade also ordered the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to provide vaccinated passengers with snacks while waiting for their flights in airports nationwide. (PPA)
