Indigent residents from Northern Samar receive assistance from Bong Go as he appeals to the public to stay vigilant amid new threats of COVID-19 variants

PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go extended aid to 144 residents in Bobon, Northern Samar on Friday, July 29. Through a video message, he requested the beneficiaries to stay vigilant and cooperative as he reassured that the government is expediting the vaccine rollout in order to protect the population against COVID-19.

He also urged the local government units to immediately utilize the vaccines as they arrive in their communities. In addition, he asked the local leaders to primarily assist vulnerable sectors in availing the vaccines immediately so they can be protected.

“Mga kababayan ko, tuloy tuloy po ang pagbabakuna. Kapag nasa priority list na po, frontliners, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, economic frontliners ay puwede na hong magpabakuna,” Go reminded.

“Pero habang patuloy tayong nagbabakuna, huwag maging kumpiyansa. Inuulit ko, disiplina po ang kailangan. Sumunod tayo sa mga paalala ng gobyerno---face mask, face shield, social distancing at hugas ng kamay,” he continued.

Go’s team organized the relief effort at Bobon Municipal Covered Court and implemented the government’s recommended safety and health protocols to safeguard the recipients.

As they were grouped into smaller batches, the beneficiaries received meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins. Some were also given new pairs of shoes and bicycles.

Furthermore, the Senator provided computer tablets to select recipients so that their children could easily access the educational materials they need for their classes under the blended learning approach implemented in schools.

“Mga kabataan, ito pong computer tablet gamitin n’yo po sa pag-aaral. Kayo po ang kinabukasan ng bansang ito. Sasaya po ang inyong mga magulang ‘pag nakapagtapos kayo ng pag-aaral,” Go expressed.

To help them start availing of economic opportunities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave each beneficiary livelihood assistance grants.

Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry conducted an on-site assessment where qualified recipients will be granted livelihood support through their Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa program.

Lastly, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority determined individuals who will be given scholarship grants or special trainings.

Jonalyn Torres, 29, thanked Senator Go and the government agencies for helping their community. Torres further shared that she will be using the assistance she received to re-establish her sari-sari store and even start a livestock business.

“Gusto ko lang po magpasalamat sa mga naitulong po nila, ang laking bagay na po nito lalo na at pandemya,” said Torres.

As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go emphasized the importance of looking after one’s health as he encouraged the residents of Bobon to visit the Malasakit Center in Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman if they may need medical assistance.

First established in 2018, the Malasakit Center aims to give Filipinos, particularly those deprived patients, easy access to medical programs offered by DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. These concerned agencies are tasked to help patients reduce their medical expenses to the lowest amount possible.

Local government officials were then lauded by the Senator for their continuous efforts to ensure that their community heals from the burdens caused by the global pandemic. Among the officials were Representatives Paul Daza, Governor Edwin Ongchuan, Vice Governor Gary Lavin, Mayor Clara Celespara, Vice Mayor Elena Balite, and many others.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Senator supported various infrastructure initiatives in the province to boost its economic development. Among these are the construction of a multi-purpose building in Bobon; installation of street lights in Rosario; the construction of road linkages in Catubig, Gamay, San Roque, and Las Navas; public market circumferential road in San Jose; drainage canal in Quirino; and footbridge in Biri; improvement of the farm-to-market or local roads in Lapinig, Lavezares, Lopez de Vega, Pambujan and Victoria; as well as the construction of a seawall from Barangay Lagundi to Brgy. Kinaguitman in Allen town.

“Mga kababayan ko, kaunting tiis lang po. Alam ko pong nahihirapan po kayo, kami rin po ni Pangulong Duterte ay nahihirapan din po,” Go said.

“Subalit, kayo po ang nagbibigay lakas sa amin para magtrabaho pa po at magserbisyo po para sa inyong lahat upang malampasan po natin itong krisis na ating kinakaharap sa ngayon,” he added.  (OSBG)
