BOC spearheads Philippine Delegation for the 15th BIMP-EAGA CIQS Meeting

MANILA -- The Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security Working Group (BIMP-EAGA CIQS WG) held its 15th Meeting on August 9, 2021, chaired by Indonesia.

The meeting was comprised of representatives from the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, and Security sectors of the BIMP-EAGA member countries with Atty. Marietta D. Zamoranos of the Bureau of Customs - External Affairs Office as head of the Philippine Delegation. The said Meeting is a platform for regular and timely exchange of information, sharing of experiences and best practices among the CIQS agencies at the national and sub-regional levels for the development and implementation of CIQS reforms and trade facilitation measures.

On its 15th Meeting, the BIMP-EAGA CIQS Working Group discussed a wide array of topics and identified activities on enhancing Trade Facilitation through streamlining of Rules, Regulations and Procedures (RRPs) and Facilitation of Cross-Border Trade within the sub-region. The Meeting also interactively discussed the Mid-term review of the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2025 (BEV 2025), facilitated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which has been supporting BIMP-EAGA since 1996 and has been a Regional Development Advisor since 2003.

The Bureau of Customs, under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, will continue its transformation and enhancement of trade facilitation in accordance with international standards through the conduct and participation of the Bureau to such various activities. (BOC)
