MANDALUYONG CITY -- As there are now 100,000 active cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines as of August 15, 2021, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the active humanitarian ally of the government, reiterates that it is a must to take extra measures.
Delta Variant cases have been increasing despite the ongoing ECQ and Health Undersecretary and Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire has also confirmed the presence of the new Lambda variant in the Philippines, which has been confirmed in more than 20 countries.
According to Vergeire, the first confirmed case of Lambda is a local, a 35-year-old-female who tested positive last July.
As of today, the World Health Organization has not yet classified the Lambda variant as a variant of concern. However, Delta remains one of the most dangerous variants for its viral load is 1,300 times as compared to the original COVID-19 virus.
With this in mind, the PRC led by Senator Richard Gordon once again reminds the public to practice protective measures at all times.
"Always wear a mask; I recommend that you double mask especially when you are in crowded areas, observe proper social distancing, wash/ disinfect your hands regularly, and stay at home as much as possible," said Gordon.
At the same time, Gordon emphasized that getting vaccinated is still the way to reach our goal of herd immunity.
"Vaccines work, and vaccines continue to save lives every day. The best way to protect yourselves, your loved ones, and your community are by getting vaccinated," he said.
