PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher “Bong” Go expressed his appreciation for the contribution of economic frontliners as he continues to support essential workers nationwide amid the challenges caused by the global pandemic.
Go’s team organized a series of distribution activities at Siquijor Provincial Grounds for 6,008 beneficiaries from the towns of Siquijor, Larena, Maria, Lazi, Enrique Villanueva, and San Juan in the province of Siquijor from August 16 to 18.
In his video message, Senator Go encouraged residents to get inoculated against COVID-19 since essential workers are now eligible in accordance with the vaccination guidelines. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go reiterated how vaccines are the key to returning to normalcy as this would lead the nation to achieve population protection and herd immunity soon.
Go, likewise, called the attention of local government leaders to efficiently roll out vaccines to residents immediately after doses are delivered in their respective towns.
As of writing, a total of 28.68 million COVID-19 vaccines have been successfully administered, 15.88 million of which were given as first doses while 12.8 million were fully administered.
Meanwhile, there were 372,923 jabs that were inoculated on August 17 alone.
“Ang bakuna ang susi o solusyon para unti-unti na tayong makabalik sa ating normal na pamumuhay, upang maging masaya ang ating Pasko ngayong taon. Kaya pakiusap lang namin ni Pangulong Duterte sa inyo, magtiwala kayo sa bakuna, huwag kayong matakot sa bakuna,” said Go.
Go’s team grouped the beneficiaries into smaller batches and enforced necessary safety and health protocols to prevent the further spread of the virus. They then handed out meals, masks, face shields, and vitamins to each essential worker.
Some beneficiaries also received new pairs of shoes and bicycles while others brought home computer tablets that would aid their children as they pursue their education under the blended learning set-up.
Continuing his remarks, Go expressed his gratitude towards several government agencies for extending more forms of assistance.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance while the Department of Trade and Industry, in turn, conducted an assessment of qualified recipients whom can be given livelihood support.
Lastly, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority granted scholarships to select beneficiaries after evaluation.
