DICT donates laptops to Angono LGU for the benefit of students

QUEZON CITY -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) officially turned over 20 units of laptops to the Municipality of Angono, Rizal on August 16, 2021 as part of its Digital Education Program and its component expanded Cybersafe Learning Project.

Led by DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” B. Honasan II, the learning devices were accepted by Mayor Jeri Mae E. Calderon and Vice Mayor Gerry V. Calderon.

“Your DICT is committed in helping the education sector adopt to the new normal. Hence, we continue to strengthen our digital education initiatives such as the provision of Internet connectivity as well as ICT tools and devices which they can use in online learning,” Secretary Honasan said.

The DICT and the Municipality of Angono also signed two Memoranda of Agreement for the implementation of the Free W-Fi for All and Municipal Broadband Network.

Secretary Honasan said the DICT will continue to expand this initiative to other local government units to help all students and teachers, especially those in remote and far-flung communities, adapt to blended learning.

“The DICT is one with the education sector in ensuring that no student shall be left behind as we continue to transition to the new normal,” he explained.

Meanwhile, as part of its efforts to support digitalization of education in the country, the DICT has partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd) for the establishment of the Public Education Network (PEN) which is envisioned to provide digital connectivity to all public schools and DepEd offices nationwide.
