PASAY CITY -- Senator Christopher "Bong" Go's office delivered assistance to transport workers and other sectoral groups, which included tricycle, bus and jeepney operators and drivers, returning overseas Filipino workers, market vendors and indigent residents in San Carlos City, Pangasinan from August 19 to 20.
A total of 5,000 beneficiaries received meals, vitamins, masks, and face shields from the Senator's staff. Selected recipients received new shoes, while others were given bicycles to use for commuting. Some parents also received computer tablets which their children can use for their educational needs.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development were also on site, distributing aid to each beneficiary. To ensure everyone's health and safety, the activities were carried out in batches and in strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.
Joseph Malasan, a former OFW and one of the beneficiaries, detailed how the pandemic has affected his livelihood.
Meanwhile, essential workers should get vaccinated to protect themselves and their families from the virus, according to Go.
In addition, the Senator aided residents in need of medical attention, advising them to go to the Malasakit Center at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City, Pangasinan for medical assistance.
The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where patients can seek help from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
The Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which Go principally authored and sponsored, institutionalized the initiative. There are now 137 Malasakit Centers established nationwide.
