SEOUL -- The ASEAN-Korea Centre is offering university students of ASEAN and Korea the opportunity to share their insights on promoting ASEAN-Korea partnership in the 2021 ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest. The call for papers is open now until 14 November, and essays can be submitted online (http://bit.do/2021akessay).
The contest invites students to present their ideas through academic writing on one of the three given themes: 1) The role of the youth in promoting mutual understanding between ASEAN and Korea towards a sustainable and future-oriented ASEAN-Korea partnership; 2) Strengthening ASEAN-Korea partnership in overcoming COVID-19 and building back better for greater prosperity in the region; or 3) Strengthening ASEAN-Korea cooperation in mitigating the impact of climate change and promoting sustainable development in the Mekong region.
Students are encouraged to consult with their professors and can work individually or in teams (up to two students) to submit their essay. The 1st Prize winner would be awarded KRW 2,500,000; 2nd Prize (two teams) KRW 1,500,000 each; 3rd Prize (2 teams) KRW 1,000,000 each. Recipients of the special recognition prize (up to five teams) will receive KRW 500,000 each. The winners will be given the opportunity to publish and present their essays at an academic webinar. Prominent scholars across ASEAN and Korea will take part in the evaluation committee.
In its sixth consecutive year, the ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest has become a distinctive platform in fostering young researchers to study ASEAN-Korea partnership, receiving over 700 entries and producing 58 winners. This year’s contest is organised in cooperation with the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies, Seoul National University Asia Center and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and is supported by the ASEAN Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, ASEAN University Network, and the ASEAN Foundation.
