‘Serve with integrity’: CHED commissioner urges BiPSU graduates' patriotism, humanity

NAVAL, Biliran -- Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) commissioner urged the graduates of the Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) to serve with integrity and patriotism during its 42nd Commencement Exercises on August 18-20 and 23.

“It is your responsibility now to serve our Motherland with the inherent integrity and importance of public service,” Dr. Darilag said.

Dr. Darilag, who also served as the Chairperson of the BiPSU Board of Regents, reminded the graduates both in the graduate and undergraduate schools the importance of rekindling patriotism and revisiting humanity.

“Patuloy nawa kayong maging matuwid, gumawa ng mabuti sa kapwa at maging mapagkandili sa inyong bayang Pilipinas [May you continue to be righteous, do good to others and be caring for your country, the Philippines]."

“Hayaan ninyong taglayin ninyo sa inyong puso at sa inyong isipan ang mga pangunahing katangian ng katapatan, katarungan at etikal sapagkat ito ang mahahalagang sangkap sa pagiging ganap ng Pilipino [Let us have in your heart and in your mind the basic characteristics of honesty, justice and ethics because they are essential ingredients in the perfection of the Filipino],” he said.

Dr. Darilag, a registered nurse, a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), a Master’s degree holder in Education and in Medical Technology, and a holder of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Science Education, emphasized that graduating in college comes with a huge responsibility.

“Kayo magsisipagtapos ang magiging instrumento ng matatag na edukasyon para sa tapat ng paglilingkod sa bansa [You graduates will be the instrument of solid education for faithful service to the country].”

According to him, while the students’ commencement will take them to a higher level of living and being a living being, they should always keep themselves anchored in being a Filipino and being a human.

“Ang pagsasanay na ito ay isang pagtatalaga sa inyong mga tungkulin sa buhay, mga tungkuling huhulma sa inyong pagkatao na may kaakibat na prinsipyo, paninindigan at pagmamahal sa bayan [This training is a commitment to your duties in life, duties that will shape your personality with associated principles, commitment and love for the country],” he said.

Dr. Darilag also assured that life is full of exciting moments and wonderful experiences and urged the graduates to brace themselves.

“Nawa ay mapaghandaan ninyong mabuti ang mga bagay na sadyang nakalaan para sa inyo sa patuloy na pagtubo at pagbuo ng pagkatao para sa inyong kapwa [May you be well prepared for the things that are meant for you to continue to grow and develop character for your fellowmen].”

As an educator and the head of BiPSU’s governing body, Dr. Darilag explained that the graduation will serve as the beginning of the students’ new role in life.

“Ituring ninyo na ang pagtitipong ito ay isang pagkilala sa isang sigasig, pagsisikap at pagtatyaga upang maisakatuparan ang mga layunin [Consider this gathering as a recognition of a zeal, effort and perseverance to accomplish the goals]."

“Ang inyong pagtatapos ay simula ng panibagong yugto sa inyong buhay. Nakamamangha at nakaka-ingganyo, at bagong pagtanaw sa kinabukasan [Your graduation is the beginning of a new phase in your life. Amazing and engaging, and new vision of the future],” Dr. Darilag mentioned.

Moreover, he shared a reform proposal by the Ateneo Center for Organizational Research and Development with the mnemonic REBUILD which aims to maintain modern standards in the way of working.

He explained that REBUILD stands for Remote work, Employee Support, Business Contingency, Upskilling on Technology, IT Infrastructure, Leadership Adaptiveness, and Design Thinking for the Future.

He further said that the seven elements are combined to possess quality work and make professional life stable and encouraged the graduates to possess the traits that would counter the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.

“Ang mundo ay Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous na nangangailangan ng isang VUCA-proof na propesyunal at ako ay nakakasiguro na ang produkto ng BiPSU ay nagtataglay ng lahat ng kakayahan sa pagharap ng hamon ng mundo [The world is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous in need of a VUCA-proof professional and I am confident that the BiPSU product possesses all the capabilities to face the world’s challenges],” he said.

Dr. Darilag ended his keynote speech hoping for the graduates to use the graduation as a stepping stone in serving people and the country.

“Nawa ang pagtatapos na ito ay magdala sa inyo sa mas mataas na lebel ng dignidad bilang isang indibidwal na may kakayahang magpastol ng kapwa-tao para sa mas makatao at mapagmalasakit na lipunan [May this end bring you to a higher level of dignity as an individual capable of shepherding fellow human beings for a more humane and caring society],” he concluded.
